The Audi 2017 A8 Release Date Price & Specs
Audi fans everywhere are excited for the release of the upcoming Audi 2017 A8, the second generation of the model. From information gathered from various sources, the 2017 A8 is undergoing serious redesigns and promises to be an exceptionally refined care that provides the driver with plenty of excitement.
The interior of the A8 did not get overlooked during the redesign. Comfort and luxury surrounds you from the moment you slip inside. The cabin is packed with the latest technologies on the market, and features some sporty upgrades to the upholstery. Even though the company is keeping much of the details about the A8’s interior a secret, here are some of the details we have learned of.
One of the first details you will notice is the large touch screen that is located in the centre of the dashboard. The screen serves several functions that include providing control of the upgraded infotainment system. Wi-Fi hot spot, Smartphone integration, USB ports and Bluetooth will be offered as standard features. Automatic climate control, a review camera, an LCD screen, and a state-of-the-art entertainment system that will be paired with an excellent surround sound system are some other speculated features. Other features will probably include cruise control and parking sensors.
The Valcona leather upholstered steering wheel and seats will make passengers feel welcome. The seats will also be ventilated, heated and electronically adjustable. Contrasting stitching will add a sporty touch to the black trim. Plenty of head and leg room will be ensured throughout.
The A8 will also feature some of the latest safety technology, such as traction and stability control, ABS, lane departure warning, a 360-degree camera, front collision warning and mitigation, and several airbags.
Instead of being based on the MLP platform like the current model, the 2017 A8 will be based on the MLB Evo platform, the same used by the new A4 and Q7 Audi models. The transition to this new platform significantly reduces the curb weight of the A8.
The A8 used to be the most advanced car produced by Audi. However, the model started falling behind other models manufactured by Audi in 2009. The whole new design is Audi’s attempt to, once again, make the A8 their most advanced car. Even though the exact details are not easy to come by, the model caught by photographers, under heavy disguise of course, leads us to assume the chassis has been completely redesigned. It is believed that the massive weight reduction in the A8 is due to this new chassis being constructed from aluminium.
Other design features are intended to make the A8 compete with Bentley, Mercedes, Porsche and BMW. These features include: a redesigned bumper, LED headlights that have been redesigned, as well as a modified grill. This new design gives the A8 an aggressive look, while retaining the elegance Audi has become known for.
The 2017 Audi A8 will be available with the same drive-trains that are in the current model, as well as feature new engine options. You can expect base models to be powered by a 3.0L supercharged V6 that cranks out 300 HP, 17 more than the outgoing model, and 326 lb-ft. of torque.
A 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder has been reported as being a possible option in some markets, and will produce 290 HP with 270 lb-ft. of torque. Other reported engine options are the 4.0L V8 with 450 HP and 444 lb-ft. of torque, and a 3.0L V6 diesel engine that will push 240 HP with torque at around 406 lb-ft.
For the higher-end models, engine options will include the 6.3L W12 that pumps out 500 HP and 461 lb-ft. of torque, or a 4.0L V8 that produces 520 HP and 481 lb-ft. of torque. All engines will be paired with ZF 8-speed automatic transmission that will send power to all four wheels with the Quattro system.
